After running over 25 cars in Sierra Leone over a decade we can firmly say which have lasted the best...DONT BUY A NEW DIESEL IF IT IS NOT TROPICAL/AFRICAN SPEC!..Tropical spec vehicles are designed to run on the poor quality local fuel.....European ones (especially newer) are not...Our experience is that petrol cars all run pretty well as normal so if buying used and you cant find tropical spec we advise to buy petrol...Our own diesels (non tropical Spec) have ALL experienced expensive and troublesome problems ..... mainly fuel pumps, fuel injectors, turbos...Bad diesel can do very serious damage in a way bad petrol cannot. We are unaware of any quick solution so we now offer primarily petrol vehicles and for all customers we recommend using genuine high quality fuel filters (diesel ones to separate water out), quality air filters and oil filters and change regularly. Once particles are in the engine they are like sandpapering the inside of the engine....We do sell diesel but recommend petrol if you have the choice...
